Anyone else having problems with the voting widget? In Safari 3.1.1 I get an error saying that I need to enable cookies (they are). (Worse: the error message has a \n - that’s an actual backslash and n, not a newline). (Works fine in Flock).

I think someone is stuffing the ballot box for Kristina, Leah, and Andrea. I’m refreshing the results and watching those three get a ton of votes on a steady basis. And you can re-vote if you just flush the Zoho cookie from your browser. The voting started off fairly close, then all of a sudden those three shot way ahead and continue to get votes. It just doesn’t fit the kind of distribution you’d expect based on the comments to date.

Well Andrea got my vote, but it was a close one, I was a difficult decision between Andrea and Leah for me, but the deal breaker? Mahalo with the shotgun, hell yes! But on a more serious note, whilst Leah is obviously the more professional of the two, her interview skills are excellent. but to me it all felt like an act. Andrea’s got character, and I wanna see more of it!

I enjoy Sarah’s work the most.
It hits the mark the best in many ways:
Sarah’s….
Choice of topic was the best - most in tune with Mahalo theme
One of few contestants to reply to people online
Only one who knows how to post video answers in Mahalo
Only one who registered and learned to be a Mahalo member
Sarah replies in ALL forums I have seen in & out of Mahalo quickly & appropriately
Sarah is already successful at vlog & web blog work so is a great prospect
Sarah guarantees presentation competence with a theatre bachelors degree
Sarah does not ruin the performance with technical incompetence
Some specifics:
She frames the picture with varying backgrounds & participant heights
She does not let herself or interviewee be talking heads - action is planned
She does not let herself or interviewee show off or lecture to the camera
She engages participants into a conversation/story & draws the audience in
She is a skilled interviewer and knows how to make everyone shine & be comfortable
She takes risks appropriate for her story eg. non-sexy outfit, slow pace when called for
She is sensitive to and true to her story giving a genuine reporting result - not fluff
Sarah works hard - participates and is not afraid to try things on camera (hula)
Sarah has a great sense of humor, is open, and is an excellent communicator
Sarah is unselfish and makes the interviewee the star of the episode, not herself
I learn so much watching Sarah’s work and it is thoroughly enjoyable
Sarah cares about her work, about people, and improving her professional work
Sarah is clearly motivated to do her best and she would lift Mahalo to another level
I have great faith in Sarah as a Mahalo vlog host - I think she has great positive potential! Good luck Sarah!

Firstly, I think the episode by Andrea Rene made me cringe. Not because she did poorly, but rather, the weapon safe skills were exceptionally poor. However, I still think Andrea has something special to offer.
My order of preference is
1. Andrea, - exciting
2. Sarah, - safe and reliable (I don’t think she could do a bad episode.
3. Leah - wow, can I get her phone number.
The stand out performer of the Vlog Idol series is Lon. Before this I was wondering under what rock did they find this nerd, but after the yogurt skits, I have to say the boy has talent.

This is SO tough. I love both Leah and Andrea and still think Mahalo should select them BOTH to alternate shows, but if I’m forced to pick, I’d have to go with Leah. She possesses everything the host for this show has to have: intelligence, charm, great speaking and interviewing skills, energy, personality, and BEAUTY.

Forget all the other comments about pretty faces. Sarah has the right personality and subtle expressions to make for a lasting host. She is adept with technology (see her blog) and has a great ability to connect with the viewer. Rather than the other ditsy dullards, Sarah is the right choice and will keep Mahalo going strong. Pick Sarah Atwood!!

She by far is the REAL DEAL.
We really liked Sarah Atwoods personality but just don’t think she came
across very well in her last production. Maybe a little hula dancing would
have helped.

If you pick the girl that thinks shooting guns is a good idea, I will never ever watch Mahalo Daily ever again. I don’t mind that you recommend people try things I will never get to do as I am from the UK and can’t do things in California, I don’t mind that Mahalo can come over as a giant advert for the thing you are featuring, Veronica was entertaining and best when she was doing techie stuff. Guns are not OK. A presenter that picks shooting a gun (even in a safe environment) as a fun thing to try shows a serious lack of judgement and a serious lack of understanding of a world view - guns are not cool where I come from, they kill people.

- Most memorable
- Makes me not want to wait a whole day for the next episode
- Million dollar smile…and enthusiasm to go with it
- Did a good story that kept my interest

I’d say Andrea Rene’s on camera presence is the best of the six but the Hummel, D’Emilio, and Heimann’s topics seemed more interesting or at least more appealing to the Mahalo audience. Rene got my vote though.

Leah I thought was the most comfortable in front of the camera. And although I originally thought her chosen topic would be lame, I ended up intrigued and really did enjoy it. To me that is what defines a quality host, someone who is going to be in control and finish a quality product no matter the subject matter…

I just wanted to thank everyone for getting involved in VLOG Idol this far- it has been quite an experience. Thanks for your comments good or bad - just glad you watched! +Just remember that was one episode and I have lots of other ideas and qualities to offer that you haven’t even seen yet :-) Working with Mahalo Daily would be the ideal job and is worth it all! Oh and just to let you know (in regards to one comment I read) after all of the braces and headgear I had to wear as a kid it would be a waste not to smile. Plus my teeth are so big that even when I don’t smile you see them …
I also wanted to congratulate all of the other contestants for their hard work in producing 5 great episodes. So much talent - and I admire you all for your uniqueness. It isn’t easy putting yourself out there for all to see and judge. I have only smashed my computer twice:-) Good Luck Ladies….

Somewhere between Mahala al Rubra in the UAR and Maharashthra, India, a virutal Hawaiian Island welcomes vloggers. There the competition mingled 6 breezy action-oriented reports from charming female on-camera talent. This viewer was most charmed by Leah D’Emilio’s visit to the Capoeira group. The joy and postive experience that Leah presented were from the average person’s point of view and the community brought about by making music and dance together allowed this viewer to see himself in the setting much more than in any of the other pieces. It might have been the charm of the beginners marveling at their progress. It might have been that no one seemed to the “formal” instructor, but all shared their energy and their secrets in a social and game-like environment suffused with the energy of making music and dancing, actions that release the inhibitions and relax the individual in the face of competitive combat. True Capoeiras consider it clumsy and amateurish to hurt their opponen. The best come close enough to create a breeze where the foot or fist might have landed, and particularly in time with the music, as if the dancer might dance on his opponent. Leah conveyed the joy and comraderie that none of the other segments did.

Sarah was much more natural in her questioning. She appear much more at ease with the mic and the camera. She comes across as more intelligent. Not saying she is, just she has an aura of intelligence. She’s cute.

As an independent filmmaker who has done some casting, I found Leah to have the best on-screen presence and energy while keeping focus on the subject. I felt some of the other high-energy ladies drew too much emphasis from their subjects. Leah brings the viewer into the story without making herself the focus. All the contestants did very well, and I could easily see several of them as vlog hosts, but I think Leah is your winner.

I think Mahalo should give Lon an office job and hire all six of them. Monday thru Saturday you would have a different host and with a week to work on a story they could do some really great work. Besides, in a few months some are going to get other job offers for more money and jump ship. If you only take one or two then we will have to go through this all over again.

Have to admit, I really wanted Kristina to blow me away, but she didn’t, it was pretty good considering her experience, but she was far too nervous. Leah was also very good, as she has a very nice interviewing style.
However I was completely blown away by Andrea’s video. She was fun, she was energetic and she had me smiling throughout. She gets my vote!!

I’ve been watching this poll the few hours it’s been up and judging by the way the numbers are moving, it seems to me like it’s being rigged. Perhaps consider limiting each IP address to one vote? As someone else mentioned, it’s quite easy to get multiple votes under the current system.
Anyway, my vote would go to Andrea Rene :), she has an excellent on-screen presence and it doesn’t hurt that she’s adorable as well.

I thought Andrea, Michelle & Kristina were the most engaging and personable. Andrea was very lighthearted and playful. Michelle had great confidence and a great smile; her whole piece just flowed well. Kristina was charmingly awkward and asked great questions.
I would love to see it go down to three contestants and then one winner.

After watching all of the contestants, I think that Leah D’Emilio stood out as superior. This is not a knock on the others as I think that most brought something good to the show, but Leah has the polish and character and look that show needs.

hmmm… it has been noted that the voting system is flawed… and several people seem to “stuffing the box” as they say… So, it may be best for “Mahalo Daily” to throw out this false democratic process and get a little more creative with choosing the winner… HERE ARE SOME IDEAS…
1. Mud Wrestling… We’re talking Round Robin tournament… whoever pins the most, gets the host position…
2. Free Style Rap Competition… gansta, one on one knock out! The more you dis the closer you are to the Lon Kiss!
3. 80’s Style Break Dance Competition… everyone grabs their cardboard box, their boom boxes, and puts on their parachute pants, heads back to 3rd Street Promenade so you can all show the people of Santa Monica what it’s really all about!!!!
4. Trivial Pursuit… Game of the Six… whoever fills the pie first, fills the position…
5. Put the Names in a hat and draw one out… oh… wait, that would be unfair… like the voting right now!!! Don’t do that!
6. Pick the “Vlog Idol” winner yourselves! You all know with whom you really want to work… So… stuff the ballot box of the person you want to be your true champion and call it a day!
So often these days, we see the wrong people winning the competition because of flawed voting techniques… ummm… look at our country after the last 8 years. (That happened twice for that guy!)… so… let’s learn from our past mistakes and listen to your gut on this one! (Sarah!) Do the Right Thing!!!!!

And in response to Jimmy Cap. Calling these girls cheaters is not a nice comment. If you haven’t done your homework they have a following outside of Mahalo. I’m sure if you were to Google their names you can find a lot of information on all of them and see that this is not their first time having exposure on the web. Besides if you are saying they themselves are stacking the votes that is a bad statement for you to make.
I saw yesterday that in a matter of maybe an hour that Michelle Hummel received over 300 votes and in her defense I’m sure she didn’t do it herself. People do have lives outside the internet. Jobs for example to make money!!! Can’t live without the mighty old dollar.

Hands down, Leah D’Demilio, is the best. Why are we even voting? She is by far the most professional and smartest one of them all…. I’m looking at these results and Kristina is in the lead, but in her show, she was leaning away from the interviewer and not looking comfortable and some of her questioning was not the greatest. And Andrea is just a little too giddy to be professional enough for the show.

I’m sorry, but the latest figures are absolutely RIDICULOUS. Someone or a group of someones are obviously “stuffing the ballot.” Kristina in second place, AHEAD of Leah?? She was nowhere near as good in her episode, with amateurish questions (including the oh-so brilliant opener, “Dave, what is it to be a mixing engineer?” WTF?? What kind of question is that??), low energy, very visible nervousness in front of the camera, etc… How some of you are picking her ahead of Leah, who is MILES more polished, charismatic and professional, is beyond comprehension.
No offense to Kristina but she isn’t in either Leah’s or Andrea’s league. Mahalo better not be deciding this solely on fan votes, ’cause this proves something’s wrong with the system.
