Volkswagen Summer Maintenance

Volkswagen Summer Maintenance

We are in the middle of summer, so it is a good idea to pay attention to some systems in your Volkswagen in order to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

First off, check the condition of the battery. It isn’t enough that the winter has some negative effects on it - the summer could lead to unwanted issues as well. Due to the hot weather outside, the heat under the hood can be raised to disconcerting levels. This would cause the battery to corrode. Make sure to inspect the battery and clean the connections in order to ensure they are corrosion-free. In addition, the high temperatures may cause the car battery’s fluid to evaporate, so keep an eye on the levels of the fluid.

In the summer, the coolant in your VW works hard to keep the engine at the appropriate temperature levels. Or in plain words, it keeps the engine from overheating - which is why you absolutely have to keep an eye on the levels of the coolant, and top it off if needed (or have a flush service of the coolant).

Last but not least, an air conditioning inspection is in order. If you notice that the air inside is not fresh, or it has an undesirable smell, it could mean that there is something wrong with the A/C. Another cause for worry would be if it isn’t cooling the cabin as it should, or as it used to when it was brand new. Potential issues are a leak, a clogged filter, a cooling fan issue, or a compressor issue.

Have a terrific summer with your Volkswagen in top-notch shape! And remember, choose a trustworthy auto repair center for your VW!
