Which Car Fluids Require
Regular Fill-Up and Flushing
Keeping
up with your car’s routine maintenance and services is probably the
most important aspect of owning one. That’s why your car’s
overall performance must have its fluids filled and flushed
regularly. Below, we have listed all the fluids that require regularfill-up and flushing in your car.
- Engine Oil
Probably
the most important fluid you fill up in your vehicle is the engine
oil, which is crucial for keeping the engine lubricated. It’s
highly likely that you already have the habit of getting your oil
change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes
first. The best-case scenario also includes an inspection of your oil
level and viscosity once a month.
- Transmission Fluid
The
transmission fluid of your car is extremely important because it
keeps your gears running smoothly. Both the level and quality of the
fluid are crucial, although the level should stay consistent unless
there are more serious issues at hand. This fluid should be filled up
every 50,000 to 100,000 miles, depending on your vehicle and
transmission type.
- Power Steering Fluid
If
you enjoy smooth and easy steering, then you’ll do anything you can
to keep the power steering fluid at the right level. In most cases,
this fluid does not get too low, so if you see notice just a small
drop, this might be a sign of a bigger issue. It’s important to
check the level of the power steering fluid, however, in most cases,
you’ll just top it off when you have to, and probably won’t flush
it, ever.
- Coolant
The
coolant, also known as antifreeze, can be checked through the
radiator. It’s recommended to have your coolant checked at least
twice a year – once in the summer and once in the winter. Usually,
you’ll replace it every 2 to 3 years.
- Brake Fluid
The
purpose of the brake fluid is to keep your car’s brakes running
properly. So, in case there’s something “off” with your brakes,
the fluid will probably be the first place to get inspected. The
quality and level of the brake fluid should be checked every time you
get an oil change and have it replaced every 2 years.
- Windshield Wiper Fluid
Even
though the windshield wiper fluid is not as important as the other 5
fluids, you still have to make sure that you have enough of it in
your car. You do not want to be in a situation where your windshield
is dirty and you don’t have anything to clean it properly. Make
sure you check the windshield wiper fluid every few months and when
it’s needed, top it off.
