What to Do if Your Car Overheats
What to Do if Your Car OverheatsIn this article, we are going to discuss what you can do if you find yourself in an overheated car while you are in the middle of nowhere.
First things first - pull over to the side of the road. Park your vehicle safely and then turn the engine off. You will need to leave your car like that for at least 10 minutes so as to give it time to cool.
If you want the heat to clear out more quickly, open the hood of the car.
Only after sufficient time has passed and you are certain that the car has cooled off, you can try to turn the ignition to its first position - note that you do not start the engine at this point. If you see that the engine fluid is sufficient and that the temperature gauge is within a normal range, then (and only then!) you can try to start the engine.
If the vehicle won’t start or the engine is making strange and unusual noises, it is best to call a tow truck and have the car towed. Stay at the side of the road where it is safe until they arrive. After you have had your car towed, you will be able to go to an auto repair center where you can find out why this happened and how it can be fixed.
Good luck and may you never need the information above!
