Vehicle Preparation for the Winter
Vehicle Preparation for the WinterThe winter is almost here and if you haven’t prepared your car you should get right to work. Here are a few of the major things you need to have in mind for your vehicle during the harsh months of the year.
First things first, your vehicle’s tires. You need to make sure that the tires still have sufficient tread to be capable of handling the snowy and perhaps even icy roads during the winter months. Ideally, buy winter tires which are quite obviously better for the winter weather. Also, bear in mind that the tire pressure can be influenced by the cold weather – more specifically it may drop, so it is wise to check it at least once every month, if not twice.
Next, let’s just clear how you can protect your battery in order it’s capacity not to decrease. Use your garage if you have one, this way the car won’t be exposed to the cold winter nights and the battery remains protected. A tarp might also work, but nothing beats the safety of a garage.
As far as the cooling system of the vehicle goes, you need to ensure that it won’t freeze, so have it flushed and refilled with antifreeze. The antifreeze is best to be mixed in with water in a 50/50 mixture, quantities may vary based on the type of antifreeze and the lowest winter temperatures in your city. Periodically check the level, condition, and concentration of the mixture to ensure it doesn’t freeze.
Winterizing your vehicle at a trusted auto repair shop is highly important for the safety of you and your family. Don’t prolong or avoid the visit because winter is almost here and you do not want to find yourself in the middle of a snowy or icy road with a vehicle that hasn’t been winterized.
