How to Prepare Your Car for Summer
How to Prepare Your Car for SummerSummer is quickly creeping upon us and with that everyone should get their car ready for the warm, and sometimes hot weather. The following list includes things you simply cannot skip when preparing your vehicle for the summer months.
First things first, have your oil changed, and if possible the filters as well. Why? Because the oil keeps the engine parts lubricated while the filters’ purpose is to capture harmful materials that can have a negative effect on the engine, they could be anything from dirt to metal fragments that have found their way into the oil system. A new filter (a clean filter) means that more materials will get picked up which will lead to a cleaner oil for your vehicle, and clear oil means a healthier engine for your car.
Top off the car’s fluids. Coolant, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and windshield wiper fluid – in one word everything. Pay special attention to the coolant fluid, because it is of the highest importance in hot weather. If you haven’t flushed the coolant system in a while now would be the perfect time to do so.
Heat can be one of the leading causes of reduced battery life and battery failure, so before heading out on the road have your battery tested, otherwise, you might find yourself stranded on the side of the road.
So far we have covered the most important things when it comes to the vehicle running smoothly, but let us not forget that stopping the vehicle is just as important. Have your brakes inspected before the start of summer, especially if you notice them not working properly.
Last but not least we will take a look at the A/C. In the summer heat, it is important to have a properly working air conditioning, because due to the heat you might suffer a heat stroke or other potentially dangerous health conditions. So, before heading out it is a good idea to have your A/C recharged.
I hope that the list was helpful to you when making priorities for your car maintenance before summer.
