I just saw the video posted to howcast on shooting. It is marked “How to shoot a gun.” The only actual how-to part that is correct in the video is to always treat one as if it is loaded and never touch the trigger, but the bounding, giggly girl in the video is not showing safety or technique, making this a dangerous and poorly named video. I’m not trying to be rude, but to make an actual how-to of shooting requires taking the issue very seriously, not glamorizing it, and going over many of the proper points past the first two steps. For one, the video clearly shows both girl and “trainer” handling a few of the guns poorly, pointing them up and even away from “down range.” Also, the way the girl is shown holding the firearm is a sure-fire way of being poorly trained. To the casual or serious seeker of howcast’s advice on operating a firearm, seeing the way she holds it could lead to accidents: sprained wrists, improper and dangerous shooting, etc. As a gun advocate and enthusiast, I strongly recommend removing this video so as to mitigate the threat to firearm beginners. One thing I can further recommend is that the best advice for any first-time shooter, ALWAYS have someone who is well versed in firearms to supervise. Firearms are not to be taken as lightly as portrayed in this video.
