OMG, this episode is hilarious. That guy scared the beegeezus out of me! Way to go Andrea. :)

  2. sean percival Says:

    Great job!

  3. jpdeleon Says:

Better than te last show, but I guess Andrea was more worried for her shooting experience than for the show.

It was fun, but doesn’t seems the Mahalo Way…

    Cheers !!

  4. Marcelo Toyama Says:

Andrea has something of a sexy cute woman that i just loved… I gotta say, the last seconds were awesome hehe.

But I agree that she seemed a little too focused on her shooting the gun than the program. Still it was a nice show, i wasn’t expecting to see a shotgun there !

Also i barely got to hear what the guy said sometimes… not cool this is.

    Nice work Andrea !

Gee.. I wonder how the voting will be.

  5. Mike Williams Says:

I picked Andrea Rene as one of the best replacement choices from the very beginning.

    She did not disappoint.

    Great job Andrea!

  6. Kevin Says:

    This girl is a keeper.

  7. Kristina Says:

    Nice job Andrea =)

  8. pcnerd37 Says:

As much as I would like to be impartial, Andrea was my favorite going into the competition. I found this one of the most entertaining episodes so far and enjoyed the topic of the show as I am a multi-time Colorado state shooting champion. Maybe this is just of a nitpick, but having the background that I do, I feel that safety should have been addressed a bit better.

Overall, I think you did a great job although it might have been good to hold the mic a big closer to him as he seemed to have a rather quiet voice. I think you would be the best for the job and cant wait to see what happens next! Good luck!

  9. Teresa Fischer Says:

Amazing! you did a great job
This is something people talk about but they never do..I’m going to find
a local gun club and check it out

  10. Pete W Says:

    How’s the shoulder?

  11. Krista Anheluk Says:

    Excellent job Andrea!
By far my favorite clip, love the energy and I actually learned something about the art of handling a gun. It was informative, with a little fun thrown in….I think you’re the one to beat! Good-luck!

  12. PulpJEDI Says:

Overall, a job well done. She’s definitely on par with Michelle and Leah. The only things that stood out to me were a little trembling in her voice (during the intro), and she seemed to flub one of the words during the outro. I think she was saying “If you’re interested,” or something, but it came out wrong. Good choice of topic and good enough questions.

I wasn’t sold on Andrea before, but she’s definitely one of the stronger competitors.

  13. Todd Miller Says:

This entry had the Mahalo Daily style and feel to it.

Had some light audio issues, but overall good footage. Gun safety is about 99% of shooting responsibly.

I like the Andrea’s look, enthusiasm & emotion.

  14. Larry M Says:

Good job!!! I am not much of a gun fan… however, I thought she did a good job talking about the topic and she showed sound interest in it.

  15. Scot Stevenson Says:

Andrea Rene! By far the best yet! I’ve followed almost all of the episodes and Andrea did the best job of all. She’s adorable, fun to listen to … Let Andrea win!! Let Andrea win!! :)

  16. Kenny Says:

I still prefer Leah, but Andrea would be my second choice. She could even be my first if she gets used to it. It seemed a little rough but I think after 10 episodes she’d be great.

  17. MegaZone Says:

This episode made me flinch several times. I’m a gun owner, and I’ve been on ranges when someone has turned away from the range with a loaded gun in hand – and it sets the heart racing. You just do not do that. Guns are always loaded, and you never point one at something you don’t want to put a hole in. You’ll see the guy quickly taking control of the weapon when Andrea starts turning around with it, a couple of times. Just watching her do that in the video made my pulse quicken. Yikes.

It did kind of bother me that the guy was joking around so much, since it gives you the impression that gun owners don’t take it seriously. (And, as a Glock owner, hearing it called a ’street’ gun didn’t win me over.) But Andrea can’t really control what the guest says.

Overall the energy level was good, and the production was solid. And I appreciate Andrea doing something to stretch her limits and try a new experience.

  18. Martin Says:

Best vlog idol episode so far :D Could hold the mic a bit closer to the guy though.

  19. atoni2 Says:

Nothing hilarious about this subject matter. I felt very uncomfortable throughout the entire show. I did not feel that Andrea asked the proper questions to get the serious answers to questions about gun safety and about owning a gun in general. What kind of gun would he sell your grandma…Should you keep your gun loaded in your car…seriously, totally improper questions. I have nothing against doing shows on controversial subjects, but that have to be handled properly. I feel that Andrea may have just “shot herself in the foot”.

  20. Jonathan Chambers Says:

Sorry, absolutely nothing against Andrea, but I wouldn’t continue to watch Mahalo if this was the kind of featured subject matter. Obviously others disagree.

  21. pokai Says:

Andrea Rene reminds me of Natali Del Conte–same head movements and emphasis etc. Andrea is very likeable, probably top 2 so far.

  22. Elliott Cost Says:

I thought this video was great! I really think Andrea is awesome in front of the camera and has a nice funny atmosphere about her. I wouldn’t mind seeing her as the next host for Mahalo Daily.

  23. Simon Page Says:

Andrea is by far the most “can’t-get-enough-of” and for me number 1 choice.

Very professional, fun and entertaining. If she isn’t picked it will be a big mistake!

  24. Ryuho Says:

I liked Andrea the most out of the recent episodes… wow more people cared about this show than I thought.. 23 replies!

  25. motorchang Says:

I can see that this girl is fearless and willing to open herself to any kind of experience for this show. Can’t decide who’s my favorite between Leah and her but after series of so-so episodes, this one got me all smile. Good job Andrea.

  26. Drew Says:

    My second favorite!

  27. turquoise Says:

I’ve seen the previous entries in the competition and I have to say that I am most entertained and exhilarated by this episode. Andrea had really great energy throughout (although at times I thought it was a bit manic–must be the nerves & the guns!) and her topic really stood out from the rest.

This girl is a keeper! Great job Andrea!

  28. Trevor Says:

Best one yet! As I suspected, Andrea did an awesome job! I think she is the one to beat. She is a perfect fit for this hosting gig. She has a great bubbly childlike inquisitive quality that makes me want to watch her on her journey.

Prepare for the apocalypse? I love it. If the zombies come I’ll meet you at the mall. Bring that shotgun though.

    Here is my pecking order:

    1) Andrea
    2) Leah
    3) Sarah
    4) Kristina
    5) Nadine
    6) Michelle

Now Mahalo, PLEASE only eliminate one this week and keep this thing going. When Veronica was hosting, I was behind watching the vlog by 2 to 3 weeks. Now I’m up at 4am chomping at the bit waiting for my next Vlog Idol installment I’m hooked!!!

  29. Andrea Rene Says:

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say thanks for watching my episode and for all the great feedback. And yes, this was my very first gun experience so I made some mistakes, but I did make sure to ask about safety. But, remember, just hearing a safety lesson (which I did), wouldn’t be all that fun so I focused on shooting the guns. If you have any questions for me, please ask! And thanks again for supporting all the contestants on Mahalo VLOG Idol!

  30. Chris Fonseka Says:

I think I was fairly impartial going into the final 6, and I have to say Andrea NAILED it. The episode had me smiling throughout and was incredibly fun. The other girls were really good (in particular Leah’s interviewing skills) but this stood out for me.

    WELL DONE ANDREA

Have to put on the comic book guy accent for this one: that clip at the end, BEST MAHALO EVER!!!

  31. habtool Says:

    Andrea is great!
    Go Girl :)

  32. chucky Says:

a very good episode, great energy! A+

  33. Mark Jeffrey Says:

So … I was thinking Leah was the clear winner here for awhile, but after this episode … I have to admit, I think AR won me over.

This WAS the better episode, imho, very clearly. And I wasn’t expecting that. I thought Leah was going to have the best one to date. AR seemed to be a bit arrogant in earlier appearances and Leah had a Zen presence that I dug more. And i still do … but … this was rather impressive.

I liked what I saw here. If it were up to me, I’d say it’s AR now by a hair. This episode is what did it. AR was fun, not arrogant, and dealt with something outside of her comfort level with class.

PS: I am CTO of Mahalo, but I have about as much say as ConnectedGeek in who becomes the next host, just fyi: all opinions are my own.

  34. André Says:

I liked Andreas Rene the best. Make her the new host.

  35. me Says:

This is the first episode that I watched the whole thing. She is a bit of a fool. A bit too many giggles and not enough questions; “if my grand mother came in”? Give me a break. What about a question about a gun license? markmanship? All whe did was shoot a gun and laugh. You lose.

  36. Matt M. Says:

Wow, Crazy! You can tell she is out of her comfort zone for the topic she covered but she did an awesome job. She was a little up tight in the beginning but was able to loosen up around the end of the episode after shooting the guns. Maybe she should have done that first and then done the interview…

Anyway, I think she did a great job overall and showed an ability right off the bat to reach outside her comfort zone. This is one girl who will cover ANY story.

  37. takio Says:

really bad choice of theme… i’d go for something like “how to be safe WITHOUT guns”. Isn’t there enough killing already? “Guns are fun”? Please, no more of that… not very mahalo.
Andrea eats up all her words, she’s nice and fresh but too clumsy.

  38. Manny Says:

    She’s beautiful!
Her skills in general seem a little lower than what else we’ve seen in the competition, but she makes it into the top three for me, and if I was a judge I would find it VERY hard to decide between these three:

    Michelle, Kristina, and Andrea.

  39. Regan Says:

Andrea is by far the best! Very entertaining to watch, which I think is the best part! Go Andrea!!

  40. Mad Mike Says:

Holy crapola! What a great episode. If I were to vote for any episode, it’d definitely be this one. Andrea is hot, easily likeable, a bit crazy, and confident in front of the camera. What more do you need in a Mahalo Daily host?

I could definitely see myself watching Mahalo Daily more often if Andrea was the host.

  41. Vinny Says:

    OUT-STANDING.

She nailed the Mahalo vibe and produced an interesting and entertaining episode. The mic work was good, the topic was interesting…

Seriously well done, Andrea. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but that was just a really good all-around job.

  42. AJ Says:

Very very cute :-) Hubby and I agree – this was a great episode. Nice and confident, fast paced, interesting topic, great work there Andrea!

  43. Elliot A Says:

wow, best one so far for me. Great episode Andrea

  44. VaBeachKevin Says:

That was pretty enjoyable. I had a little dfficult time hearing the guest at points. Would be nice if they had a sound guy with a boom mic.

  45. Ian Says:

Very American, I mean this in the UK might be front page headline news of all the national papers! The reports would say this encourages gun crime and supports the view that others have of America that American culture is trigger happy and therefore indirectly supportive of gun crime.

Still it was a good video with great presenting from Andrea.

  46. Chris VanHonk Says:

Awesome! She has guts handling guns on her first episode. She is my girl!

  47. Chris VanHonk Says:

    Ian, get over it! :-)

  48. martinredfern Says:

Having waited to see all six, here are my thoughts in reverse chronological order:

Andrea Rene: too sexy, too reminiscent of American Beauty, too much flirting with the interviewee, too much about the host and not enough about the topic (which was a pretty dubious choice at best).

Kristina Allison: engaging but the interview lacked lustre, he was certainly dull but unfortunately I think she was too.

Sarah Atwood: looked very promising until now, but her girlish gurning and fey ‘yay’ing left me irritated and bored (although the self-satisfied interviewee and dreadful background muzak probably made things much worse).

Nadine Heimann: hate the signature Churchillian kiss, lots of interviewing errors, lost control of the topic and then signed off very unprofessionally.

Michelle Hummel: unfortunately risible, she embodies everything I dislike about US media with her big plastic smile and apparently very little going on between her ears.

Leah D’Emilio: clearly very bright, excellent choice of topic, her personal charisma is strong on screen but she nevertheless creates good quality space for her interviewees who seem to feel relaxed and voluble. She has what I see as being just the right combination of good looks with girl next door (with a brain) appeal to fit Mahalo Daily’s native audience of early adopters while also projecting the values of the Mahalo search engine: informative insights with a human touch.

I have been watching Mahalo Daily with keen interest since the first episode for personal and professional reasons. Veronica Belmont was a critical asset, but the show’s raison d’etre was clearly at odds with her personal interests: she seems much better placed at Revision 3. I think replacing her requires following a middle path between continuing in alignment with her specific personal qualities (self-evident intelligence, a certain awkwardness that makes her very attractive but not sexually threatening, natural empathy for interviewees) while injecting some new energy into the franchise.

Of the six finalists, Leah D’Emilio seems best able to fulfil that brief by offering her own version of what was best about Veronica Belmont at the same time as slightly less geeky personal enthusiasm for the wider world, thus assisting the emergence of brand Mahalo as a more mainstream vehicle.

    Cheers.

  49. chelmi Says:

    wow !

very nice job, very good energy, very good interviewing skills, great !

for me it’s a draw then, between you Andrea and Leah.

I would love to see a final round between you both, let’s hope so ;-).

  50. Josie Says:

Overall I think she did ok, however I don’t think the topic was handled with much respect. It’s not a funny topic, and when she pointed the gun at the guy, I freaked.
The laughing was way too much and her voice was piercing. I think Leah still has the edge by far. It’s that mix of intelligence, beauty and fun that Leah has seemed to mastered.

  51. john Says:

Really enjoyed this episode. Each contestant keeps getting better and better! So far I think Andrea comes closest to matching Veronica’s charisma.

  52. dizil Says:

That was AWESOME… Eat your heart out Veronica…

P.S Hate or Love guns everyone should learn the safety about them loading and unloading.

  53. Kennon Says:

Favorite so far! She’s got my vote!

  54. John C. Jones Says:

The best so far in my opinion.
A good blend of cute and sassy and the episode was entertaining.

    Andrea has my vote.

  55. Alvaro Says:

This episode was really fun! i liked the way andrea hosts the show!! i would vote for her!!! keep it up!

  56. Jared Says:

I like her best by far. Very cute, natural, and I liked that she picked a topic that is a little more controversial. And I like Mahalo daily to find out a little about something I may not already know about. So GREAT JOB!!

  57. Kim T. Says:

Andrea rocks!!! she is great very confident in front of the camera, makes good eye contact, and good mic work, this video had good sound I have been to gun ranges and I thought she wasn’t going to be able to pull it off but it was great. Andrea exudes confidence in front of a camera she would require no training at all. I would watch her daily and I know that she can deliver content.

    Thanks,

    Kim T.

  58. OJ Says:

I usually don’t comment on websites, but I’ll make this an exception. You should hire this girl NOW!!!

  59. James Says:

I love Andrea Rene! She is the best one out of all. Not to be one sided but her video was the only one I was really looking forward to, though I was surprised I did enjoy some of the others Andrea’s video is the one I have enjoyed the most. She is cute/sexy, easy and fun to watch, and I have even looked up some of her other stuff online and I am impressed by what I have seen. If you don’t choose Andrea Rene it will be a huge and I mean very HUGE let down. Make the right choice and make her Veronica’s replacement.

  60. Algenon Says:

A worthy replacement for the legendary Veronica Belmont.

  61. Franz Says:

I liked the enthusiasm of Andrea and I think this was one of the most captivating episodes. I couldn’t look away, which was only true of Leah’s episode earlier. However, the subject matter seemed very un-Mahalo, I felt she was yelling in the introduction and her prior segments, her questions seemed not thought out, and I think cheerleader-like presence is not a good fit. Her interviewing skills need work, but she was still better than many of the prior contestants. She kept the pace up throughout which was not true in many cases. I am quite divided on my feelings about Andrea, I don’t like her vibe and would probably not watch her, but it was one of the best executed episodes. She could draw me in, but she definitely not my favorite.

    My final ranking:
    1) Leah
    2) Andrea
    3) Sarah and Michelle
    4) Kristina
    5) Nadine

  62. Richard Walker Says:

I wish a drag queen had competed in the Mahalo Idol contest; it would have been fun to watch the judges squirm.

  63. Bryan Says:

I thought this episode was great. I do not think she was making light of owning or shooting a gun. Andrea was letting her personality show through, which I thought was great. She did accomplish one thing… she got everyone to talk about her episode (either love it or hate it) which is a big plus in my book. I thought Leah was going to run away with the prize but I put Andrea in a tie for 1st.

  64. D Fuller Says:

It was a good episode. Her “ending credit” was cute.

As a host, her voice would drive me nuts fairly quickly. She’s not as well spoken as some of the other candidates but she’s got a good onscreen personality.

I wouldn’t make her the host, but I would bring her back for guest appearances.

  65. Jason Says:

By far my favorite out of all the top 6 I have seen. She is fun and flirty with the guy to the point he almost forgets about safety. Very nice work Andrea. Oh and your very cute

  66. Noneus Says:

    Best show yet!

  67. Andrew Wardlaw Says:

A good energetic video, Andrea has great promise. Seemed a bit too focused on shooting the gun but overall a Nice video. I’d sat 3rd best behid Leah in (1st) and Michelle (2nd).

  68. Jonathan Says:

Huge fan of this one. She has the look, the personality and definitely knows how to interact with her subjects. Great job!

  69. JJ Says:

First off, I hate Guns. So there’s a bit of a bias there.

But Andrea did NOT do it for me at all. She barely looked at the camera, and seemed more interested in flirting with the dude.

On top of that, she has a perky attitude that just doesn’t seem real.

  70. Paul Sauser Says:

    Great job! :) Bad subject…:(

  71. Jeff Says:

Absolutely great. She was engaging, and fun, and clearly has what it takes to do the show.

  72. York Says:

Andrea was cute and handled the topic well. I think the person she interviewed was too much of a clown, especially with the way he talked about and handled the guns. However, I still think Leah has been the best overall.

  73. Jeff Says:

    My ranking:

    1. Michelle
    2. Andrea or Leah
    3. Sarah
    4. Kristina
    5. Nadine

  74. MahaloStar Says:

Ok, I thought I had made up my mind on Leah but Andrea is just the PERFECT combination of everything the Mahalodaily host should be: girl-next-door approachability, yet with a model’s beauty; professional, smooth speaking voice, yet with an earthy, easygoing vibe; good interview skills with an even better sense of humor to go with them; and boundless charisma. I LOVE her! And now I feel torn because I love both her and Leah.

Mahalo can’t you see it in yourself to give BOTH these talented ladies the spot? Have them trade off hosting duties, like alternate episodes? I just can’t see my online existence from now on without either Leah or Andrea! *cries*

Oh and btw Andrea you did a fantastic job and I just adore your cute laugh and sweet smile. You’re perky and charming without being over-the-top nauseating and you had me hooked from the start. No matter what happens, you SHOULD be in front of the camera either on TV or online.

    (Marry me?)

Um… I mean… Keep up the great work!

    :)

  75. Brian Ibbott Says:

Excellent episode. And pro-gun or anti-gun, I thought the subject matter was great.

My only issue with Andrea, and this even comes from the initial interviews with Lon and the woman-on-the-street interviews, is her occasional slurring of words. It may be her style of speech, or it may be nerves or excitement (in which case, it’s just a matter of slowing down a bit), but for me, it’s a little bit distracting.

Still, great episode, and if you trim the candidates to the final 3 or more, Andrea should still be in the running.

  76. imacynic.org Says:

ANDREA! THAT WAS AWESOME! EVERYONE DIGG THIS ARTICLE! BECAUSE YOU KNOW SHES HOT! YOU KNOW SHE’S SASSY! AND YOU KNOW SHE’S GONNA WIN!

    http://digg.com/tech_news/Andrea_Rene_is_Hot_and_Sassy_Period

  77. Jesse Says:

At first I was skeptical over this episode, but they went over real gun safety rules and it was done in a professional manner. It was also different from any previous episode of mahalo. In all I liked it until the last three seconds. This is was Andrea had a shotgun on her hip and said mahalo as we hear the sound of a shotgun being fired. This was just a complete episode ruiner for me. First this was last scene is something I would expect for some little gang banger or on someone’s ‘My Space’ page where they’ve put up their ‘Thug or Killa’ pics which makes them look stupid or cool depending on who you talk too. Then theres the little fact of having served in the military where weapon safety is a way of life. That last scene will give someone the idea that you can discharge a shotgun on your hip without consequences. The truth is that people will see this and try it usually resulting in someone getting hurt or worse killed. I’ve seen it both in my life. This one ‘3-second’ blurb ruined this episode for me and will keep it from getting my vote. Sorry for being a party ender, but this is a serious issue for me.

  78. Joey Says:

I don’t know anything more about guns than I did before I watched this.
Andrea’s voice grated on me after a while. I don’t think she’s the one.
Leah is still on top. The intelligence and mastery in which she conducts her interview really engaged me. Mahalo Daily needs to step it up a notch and Leah is the one to take them to the next level.

  79. doug Says:

    by far the best

    Great energy

  80. HIPHOPGAMER Says:

Your show was off the hook girl keep holding it down you number 1

  81. Lindsay Turnquist Says:

I have watched all 6 and I have to say Andrea is my favorite. She has high energy but is relaxed and professional, and she made me laugh!

  82. Sean Says:

Loved it, Andrea! In fact, I watched it twice!

  83. Wayne Allen Says:

Scot couldn’t have said it better!

“Andrea Rene! By far the best yet! I’ve followed almost all of the episodes and Andrea did the best job of all. She’s adorable, fun to listen to … Let Andrea win!! Let Andrea win!! :)”

  84. JoBlo Says:

Whether you’re pro or anit-gun this episode was hilarious. Very fun to watch, great energy and it NEVER got boring. It’s clearly between Andrea and Leah. That’s a hard one!

  85. snakedoc Says:

My favorite episode of the bunch. Didn’t hurt that the topic was of particular interest to me. Besides that, Andrea has a quirky, energetic vibe that totally fits Mahalo.

This episode just felt the most authentically Mahalo. The mood was light and there was plenty of action. The other episodes seemed to drag a bit at times though I’m not sure how much the host can be held responsible.

  86. Larry Says:

Andrea was not one of my favorites, I actually thought some of the other girls who didn’t make the finals should have been in over her. But this was a pretty good episode. I have to admit the topic at first made me think “really? guns?” but it was entertaining. That said, I still don’t think she is right for mahalo daily. I think she makes a better entertainment reporter.

  87. Professor Marvel Says:

To begin with, I would like to echo “martinredfern’s” comments from above, though with a lot less eloquence. Secondly, Andrea’s episode was the most overall entertaining of the lot for me. Lot’s of energy, amusing, and informative. She has a quality about her voice, however, that is extremely grating, annoying. She needs to work on her annunciation. Her words aren’t clear. Aside from this, she’s #2 in my book.

  88. francis Says:

no competition! she is heads and shoulders above the others – competition over as far as I think. She is the whole package!

  89. Elton Says:

I loved it! She tried something new, she had a lot of fun with it, and she’s so easy on the eyes! She has this girl next door look about her, and her hair, for some reason, really intrigues me.

I thought it was a neat topic, too! I’d put her just below Leah in the lead for my pick. I’m rooting for you, Andrea! I really enjoyed watching this episode, and I learned something, too.

  90. Jura Says:

I never really understood exactly what the judges saw in Andrea initially. As others have mentioned there is an overly perky “cheerleader” quality to her that is more of a turn off than a turn on. That said, despite my initial views of her, every time she has had a challenge (barring the initial Lon challenge) she has come off as surprisingly good.

This was no exception. Andrea’s perky personality is still a little off putting, but her willingness to just jump in there and try something new, as well as her geeky reference to impending apocalypses, totally make up for it.

As it stands right now, I do think Leah should be in the top spot, but Andrea hits my top three…which is a problem, because that means someone had to get bumped.

I’d say my ranking would go:

    1) Leah

    2) Andrea

    3) Kristina

    4) Michelle

    5) Sarah

    6) Nadine

I’m placing Kristina in above Michelle mostly for her potential. She has a Mahalo quality to her, it just needs some ironing out.

Anyway, congrats Andrea. I look forward to seeing where Jason is going to take this next.

  91. Nixter Says:

A good episode. Definitely top three material. She is a bit too perky and giggly for me, I don’t know if I would check in every day like I did with Veronica.

    Hm…okay, here’s my list:

    1. Leah
    2. Kristina
    3. Andrea
    4. Sarah
    5. Nadine
    6. Michelle

Dying to know what the next step is!

  92. will Says:

    Yes

  93. Leah Says:

    Nice job!

  94. Zak Says:

The best Mahalo Daily yet for this competition! I think Andrea is great. She has a great personality, very pretty, and she has excellent interview skills. Another thing this episode shows is that she isn’t afraid to do anything. Excellent! So far she blows everyone else away.

  95. adam Says:

    badass!

  96. Vote Andrea Rene :: Reactuate Says:

[...] fate isn’t completely in the voters hands, but it will be influenced by it. So go to Mahalo Daily and comment on how great she [...]

  97. jk Says:

this is the first one where i didn’t watch the entire episode. Andrea seemed to be trying too hard and making light of a (to me) very serious subject. plus, i couldn’t understand the man she was interviewing. i actually found this episode upsetting and, had it been a “real” episode, would have though badly of Mahalo by extension. Andrea herself would have been ok had she toned it down a notch.

  98. LeRoy Says:

What a great interview, she would make a great replacement for Veronica.

  99. Teradon Says:

Andrea was awesome. She picked a great subject. That bit with the shotgun at the end was inspired. Next Mercury girl ! You’ve got to put Andrea on your list.

  100. Poet_in_Pause Says:

Something about the way Andrea said “mahalo” while pumping a shotgun just put her over the top for me! She blew away more than targets on this one…

  101. David Says:

Well, I think Andrea is the one. I thought that it was a great episode. She’s very easy to watch and has that “girl next door” quality that is fairly uncommon with the rest of the girls. As far as the topic of this episode goes I also thought it was very interesting. I know that some viewers seem to have been scared off/frightened by the “Gun” topic. Geez, good guys can use guns too. Haven’t you ever watched Adam 12 or The Lone Ranger? And what about that mouse on your desk? You know, that cord on that thing could be used to strangle someone. Well, This reply isn’t going to solve this debate but I had to say something.

  102. Tim Fischer Says:

I thought this is the best so far! She has the perfect personality for the job!!!

  103. cnjibaro Says:

I’m sorry Andrea is cute but the subject matter and how it wasn’t handled seriously was just a big NO WAY for me. The giggling constantly was very annoying (like she was nervous about the guns or thought it was funny). Guns are a very serious matter and should never be taken lightly. We have enough Gang Bangers in this country and in the world that don’t give any of this and this display a second thought.

The shooting range and the guy were very weird and scary. I have been to a range before and have seen much more professionalism when it comes to handling guns and gun safety as a whole. Oh! and the shotgun pointing in the air and the sound at the same time not so good. If you did that you would have a spray of pellets everywhere and someone could very well be injured very seriously.

    Bad Subject for Mahalo!

If I have a vote this is a Big No!!!

  104. Ed Says:

Not the best topic. It was one of the weakest performances so far.

  105. ..lj Says:

Andrea did a very good job on this one. She definitely got across the idea and the fun of trying something new. This show was one of the best two. Can she repeat it, that is the question. If I had to pick 3, they would be Leah, Andrea and Sarah. Leah and Sarah came across with lots of possibilities, but Andrea hit it out of the park. I can’t ignore that. If I could select a forth, it would be Kristina who I felt had promise, but a bad case of nerves.

  106. Lloyd Says:

Voice too shrill and much, too much giggling.

  107. Paul Says:

She’s cute and has potential, but could get annoying in reporting things on a day-to-day basis. Not sure I can take her seriously.

Also, a good reporter needs to manage her subjects and she did not manage the gun guy. He was not a good interviewee. Spoke too low, too fast and made fun of a serious subject.

Sorry Andrea. Lots of potential; maybe some journalism/communications schooling is warranted; you have potential.

  108. Bleach Says:

This Episode was AWESOME!! :) Andrea was very enegetic and that makes the show very enjoyable! Love the topic on guns very informative on how to operate a hand gun also it was a blast seeing Andrea shoot especially the SHOTGUN!! Overall great show!! Good job Andrea :)!!

  109. kinslow Says:

Very cute and energetic – this is in my top 2 so far

  110. John Says:

So. I really didn’t like her. Abrasive sort of personality. Wouldn’t watch mahalo daily if it ends up as her. Just no real professionalism in handling interviews or mic technique.

  111. ruthless Says:

i have liked andrea from the beginning. i thought she did an amazing job. she is funny, engaging, a great interviewer, great spirit…the whole pavckage. pick andrea!!

  112. Jesse Says:

    Best frick’n Mahalo EVER!!!

    Love IT.

  113. Jag Says:

    awesome…

it was soo good i actually made an effort and came and commented

  114. ag Says:

we have a winner. smart, beatiful and animated. what more could you ask for?

  115. Jason Huebel Says:

Andrea had a lot of energy and I loved the crack about the coming apocalypse. However, her mic work left a lot to be desired and I think the person she interviewed wasn’t the best choice. He tended to mumble at the beginning, which combined with his accent and the mic being too far away meant that it was very difficult to understand him at times.

Andrea also spent too much time flirting with the guy and not enough time paying attention to gun safety. On more than one occassion she was aiming the weapon outside of the range. Not cool.

The episode also seemed unbalanced. There was very little useful information and a whole lot of “hey do you want to shoot this” and “what would you suggest my grandmother use to blow someone away”.

The show would have been better if Andrea had provided more information about the types of guns available, what each gun is useful for (hunting, self-defense, etc), the proper way to handle a gun (which she obviously ignored herself), etc.

  116. Sholom Brody Says:

    Wow. Incredible.

  117. Jason Says:

I really enjoyed this one. Andrea was not afraid to try something new and it was fun and funny.

I would rate the shows so far as:
    1. Andrea
    2. Kristina
    3. Leah
    4. Michelle
    5. Nadine
    6. Sarah

They all did a great job. But I think the top two are really the “Stars”.

  118. Rob S Says:

Andrea’s was great, but not quite as good as Leah’s

    1. Leah
    2. Andrea
    3. Kristina
    4. Nadine
    5. Michelle
    6. Sarah

  119. Yeti Says:

This is one of the better interviewers. She is confident and fun to watch. Cant tell though if she mumbles of has a tongue ring….

  120. Don Covin Says:

Andrea hands down. Energy is there and great delivery! No point rating the others, there is only one choice.

  121. orla17 Says:

    This show was great !!!
It was so funny. When they tried the shotgun I was like is gonna blow her shoulder away, but she was great.

I think Andrea is the one people, we may be watching our next Mahalo Host.
She is smart, funny, cute and has that special something.
    So good luck Andrea !!!

  122. Dave UK Says:

Gotta say, BEST mahalo show out of the final six contestants!

Andrea’s got my vote for sure! Cute, funny, smart and definitely full of energy

    Andrea TO WIN ~!

  123. Radek Says:

Great job Andrea Rene, I think you are the best candidate for Mahalo Daily because you come on the stage with full energy and you do everything from the bottom of your heart.

I definitely think you are the winner.

  124. Bob T Says:

I have to agree with Rob S., and not because we share the same name.

“Andrea’s was great, but not quite as good as Leah’s”

    1. Leah
    2. Andrea
    3. Sarah
    4. Nadine
    5. Michelle
    6. Kristina

  125. Richard Lai Says:

Wow, after watching the episode I had to urge to comment here (I didn’t with the other candidates’ episodes; sorry girls!).

Andrea definitely has some magic – she’s uber-cute and pleasantly energetic. For now she’s got my vote.

PS: I like how the cameraman also jumped after the first gunshot.

  126. Joe Says:

I didn’t enjoy this episode as much as the others. The content was good, but I thought there wasn’t enough emphasis on the safety. It needn’t be all 100% boring safety tips, but every time Andrea shot the gun, I felt nervous that she wasn’t thinking about where she was pointing it…

I’m sure most people in this situation would be similar, but the new host of Mahalo Daily shouldn’t be “most people” – It should be someone special!

  127. Tony Meyer Says:

The link has details, but in order of best to worst:

    1. Nadine
    2. Leah
    3. Andrea
    4. Michelle
    5. Kristina
    6. Sarah

My real comment to the judges, though, is: the masses often make poor choices (look at most country’s governments!) – listen to the people, but ignore them if you want, and don’t try and please the most people.

  128. TheFemGeek Says:

This was a very fun episode. But like I have said before. A lot of what I have seen looks no different than a gimmicky segment on the evening news. I will have to stick with Sarah because it was the most natural of the 6. I have watched Mahalo from the beginning, pretty much following Veronica Belmont. So I’ll have to admit that it’s the host that pretty much does it for me. If I want some gimmicky host I might as well stick with the quick segments on cable and local tv since I am paying for it. Give me a reason to stop paying. A good start is go for Sarah.

    1. Sarah
    2. Andrea
    3. Nadine
    4. Michelle
    5. Leah
    6. Kristina

I have posted the videos in the order that I favor and what I thought on my vlog, check it out http://tinyurl.com/4sor5w

  129. pat Says:

Andrea is enthusiastic and it was fun to watch her shoot. She’s a cute girl with a lot of energy. Too much energy. Maybe shouldn’t have had that last cup of coffee. She seemed to be trying too hard to be perky. The flirty attitude would get old pretty quick. She seemed to be more interested in showcasing her own personality rather than digging for details about the subject. The interviewee was totally sucked into the flirtation and blew his chance to present his very serious subject with any depth. The overacting and strained facial expressions in the beginning of the piece made me tense. It was a good effort but I don’t beleive she has the depth and poise of Leah.

  130. Trakix Says:

Haven’t given any input here yet. All the girls were great, but here is, in my opinion, the best to worst.

    1. Nadine Heimann
    2. Leah D’Emilio
    3. Andrea Rene
    4. Kristina Allison
    5. Michelle Hummel
    6. Sarah Atwood

  131. Simon Says:

    And we have a winner!

MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE!

  132. Randy Says:

That was scary. She made guns look like a fun little game. I think what all my Irish buddies would think back in Ireland… shock at how she displays this subject… as if it were light and not important. This was not a story I would take seriously, nor would I want any teenage or young girls to watch… “Oh, lets, like, go shoot a gun, like!”

And in every instance she was holding a loaded cocked gun and swung around to speak to the camera, at which point the interviewee grabbed the gun before she pointed it right at him.

  133. barcodaddy Says:

I appreciate the guts to tackle such a risky, daring topic. However, I found Andrea’s coverage immature and frankly irresponsible. Not only did this episode neglect to show any respect for guns but it also failed to teach me anything. I thought Mahalo Daily was supposed to be educational and I can honestly say that I didnt learn anything about guns except that I shouldn’t keep a loaded one in my car. Duh!!! Andrea is really cute but I’d probably stop watching if the show continues to cover these kinds of topics in this way.

  134. mikes Says:

even in the initial stages it was obvious she had a captivating onscreen presence that would keep me coming back to mahalo for my daily fix.

  135. Chris Pacheco Says:

Andrea is the best so far. A natural!

  136. imacynic.org Says:

@barcodaddy You know what, I’ll concede that it may seem a little “immature” and maybe alot toward “irresponsibility,” but it doesn’t change the fact that her skills are innate, I think Mahalo Daily is a great learning experience to get into the groove of what Jason Calacanis wants out of a Mahalo Vlog Host, and she definitely has the trophy and the capability of performing on Mahalo Daily, but there’s always room to “improve.”

Like I said: Digg it: http://digg.com/tech_news/Andrea_Rene_is_Hot_and_Sassy_Period

So that everyone knows who she is!

  137. Lee McKusick Says:

    My picks:

    1. Kristina
    2. Nadine
    3. Leah
    4. Michelle
    5. Andrea
    6. Sarah

You can find a more in-depth review of them on my blog:
    http://leemckusick.com/blog/2008/05/mahalo-vlog-idol/

  138. Tony Meyer Says:

Two questions for anyone that has a good answer:

    1. There are obviously going to be quite a few blog posts with more in-depth comments than are here (e.g. http://tonyandrewmeyer.wordpress.com/2008/05/22/mahalo-vlog-idol/ ;)). Is there a better way to find those than just checking through the comments here? Some google or youtube magic that will find anything with the appropriate videos?

    2. Sarah seems to generally make the bottom or the top of people’s lists. Could a Sarah fan try to explain why they think she’s good? Without mentioning being “in the community”? Are there fans of Sarah that didn’t know of her before the contest? This is a serious question – I don’t understand from the comments so far why people rate her highly, and I would like to.

  139. Suzi Says:

I enjoyed the video. I think more people who are afraid of guns should find out about them. I was very impressed that Andrea Rene was willing to learn about something, and risk failing, in public.

  140. John Says:

That was fun…she did well…but shooting a range like that is lame….you should have had these guys show her how to shoot!!! That would have really tested here.

    http://huntingwithjim.com

  141. Snow White Says:

    1st pick: Nadine,
2nd pick: Andrea, She just didn’t seem professional. It wasn’t bad but could have been better.

  142. Kevin B. O'Brien Says:

This was pretty good. I think I would rate Andrea second of the finalists. But Leah is still my favorite.

  143. Sandra Says:

1st Pick: Andrea. She is FULL OF PERSONALITY and LIVELY. She makes me want to watch her. PUT YOUR MONEY ON ANDREA!

  144. Joe Marsalla Says:

I am a 53 year old, happily married father of two, never owned a gun, Volvo driving, Cal grad. A bit outside of your demo, but here is what the old timer thinks. Andrea is the one. She is a great mix of enthusiasm and curiosity. Her camera presence is terrific. She will pick up the interview skills. Great work!

  145. Mike Says:

Andrea was so annoying that it was hard for me to finish watching the episode. She was giggling and flirting so much I wanted to hit mute. She is way to fake. I will stop watching Mahalo if she wins. Also, I could not stand that fake smile. Yuck. Not the best looking girl. Leah is the clear winner. Maybe Andrea should find a new career.

  146. Mike Says:

Andrea was very annoying. She was giggling and flirting so much that I had a hard time finishing the episode. She is too fake. Her fake smile disgust me. Even her voice bothered me. I will stop watching Mahalo if she wins. Leah is the clear winner. Andrea should find a new career.

  147. Steven Says:

I couldn’t stand Andrea. She seems childish and needs to do some more schooling. Would not watch Mahalo anymore if she wins. I will have nightmares of that stupid laugh of hers hers. She was terrible. VOte for some one with talent. Andrea doesn’t have that.

  148. JlP Says:

This is the best of the final six. I wanted Leah to win, but alas, Andrea is best.

  149. Jason Huebel Says:

Not sure I understand how people think Andrea was better than Leah, to be perfectly honest. Leah’s episode had actual content, as opposed to Andrea’s which had a lot of flirting, giggling and ignorance of gun safety.

If either Sarah or Andrea become the new host, I’m done… My top two are Leah and Nadine, with Leah being the clear winner.

  150. StacyWright Says:

Woooooooow…..”spoken in that really cheesy monster truck rally guy voice” “Chicks with gunz”!!!!! Andrea Rene says ” I never go anywhere without my AK”!!! This was the bomb. Tough decision but she should be in the top three. Jason, I think you nead to hire 3 ladies…..Sarah….Leah……Andre.

  151. Paul S. Says:

    1) Andrea
    2) Leah

Both have a natural feel behind the microphone. Both are pleasant and intelligent.

    The rest are equal.

  152. MyComment Says:

Andrea has what it takes to raise Mahalo Daily to the next level.

REALLY looking forward to her replacing V*.

  158. James Says:

great job, Andrea! YOU ARE THE ONE! the subject matter didn’t stand out as much as your ability to keep me interested in what happens next. your energy and enthusiasm kept me wanting more. and THAT is probably more important since subject matter will be constantly changing. you better win. if not, i’ll have to find out what project you’ll be into next. you’ll have my feed subscription. MAHALO!

  159. Pete Moring Says:

I’d have loved to have watched this episode.
It’s been loading now for 5 minutes, and is still loading as I type.

It’s 8.15am in the UK at present.

Has Youtube gone down or something?

    Pete.

  160. David Says:

Great job, Andrea! You’ve got my vote.

In my mind, this competition is between Andrea and Leah. You’ve got a tough decision to make, Jason!

  161. Joe Says:

She should have been kicked out of the range when she pointed the gun at him after firing the first shot. No excuse.

  162. Paul Says:

I wish Andrea’s story were more like this one.

  163. Brian Bush Says:

I liked this episode; she seemed to have a very natural delivery, for the most part, and wasn’t afraid to react naturally. First trip to the gun range can be intimidating. On a less positive note, I didn’t really jive with the questions she asked 100%, not quite as cohesive as I would have liked.

  164. Andrew Britton Says:

    What a great presenter.
A somewhat special sparkle and drive give Andrea a watchable quality.
She seems fun and eager to try scary things….Guns.
Well done Andrea for such an energetic episode.

We miss VB, but so far either Leah or Andrea would a good choice to give mahalodaily that special something that just makes you want to come back day after day.

  165. Anthony Says:

I think Andrea Rene did a wonderful job. I smiled through the whole video she did. Great job!!

  166. Joey Says:

Uhhh, was this an interview or a commercial for match.com. Her first comment confused the interviewee because he didn’t know what it was…a question or a statement. There was this odd pause and made me on edge the whole time.

Obviously she was nervous, because she laughed through the entire piece. Mahalo daily would be taking a step backwards if they entertain this amateur approach to their organization.

  167. charles Says:

Obviously overlooked the second rule of firearm safety, don’t ever point the weapon at something you don’t intend to destroy. (notice how he has to take the pistol away everytime she turns around). It’s shoddy training like this that gets innocent people killed. You wouldn’t let someone drive down the road the first time without teaching them which side to drive on would you?
