Excellent! She should have picked a more techy topic and showed off some of her skillz.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:13 am
Really fun episode. I’m loving these topics the ladies are coming up with!
May 14th, 2008 at 1:31 am
You know, agreed with more of a techy topic, but this was VERY entertaining. I was literally smiling the whole time. Great questions at the start, and she just jumped right in it. A little too long on the race itself, but over all very fun episode.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:47 am
Awesome topic.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:21 am
Though I enjoyed the episode, the first criticism I thought of as soon as I closed the window was that she could’ve picked a better topic than go kart racing. It felt like something they wouldn’t ordinarily do.
She has this look where you just can’t take your eyes off of her, and I really dig that. I could definitely see myself coming back every day to watch the podcast because she had a fun personality without being too bubbly, she was very nice without being superficial to the person she was talking to, and she really let herself go and have a good time in the go kart.
Not sure if it was better than Leah’s or not, but I definitely would love to see more of her so no complaints from me if she won!
May 14th, 2008 at 2:33 am
What a great episode and topic!!! Michelle is so fun and energetic! She made me want to drive down to Anaheim and go kart race as soon as possible!!! Michelle is smart and beautiful and should definitely be the next host of Mahalo Daily!!!!
May 14th, 2008 at 2:36 am
I watch your show all the time, I also like the tech shows better than watching freaky people dancing.
It was your 1st show and hopefully you will have better topics.
I also watch GeekBrief but hate the girly laughing and the bloopers drives me crazy there is no need for me to spend time downloading your bloopers.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:40 am
No thanks, I be better watching late night TV so I did not like the topic however I did like your interviewing and think you will do well.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:59 am
Adventurous, sexy, supremely beautiful, and scary that she will only get better if she gets the gig.
Great first show - I’d fly across the country to challenge you to a Go Cart race.
May 14th, 2008 at 3:09 am
I’m glad, so far, the girls aren’t picking “geeky” or “tech” topics!! This shows always done a great job at not focusing on one area too much. That’s what makes it so good!
I really enjoyed this over Leah’s video. Michelle wasn’t even the girl I was rooting for!!!! She’d make a fine host!
May 14th, 2008 at 3:14 am
Very engaging. I’d be happy to see her as the new host of Mahalo Daily. I’d also like Leah D’Emilio. Maybe they could both be hosts.
Unfortunately she was obviously reading the teleprompter at the begining and end of the episode. For that reason alone, I’d prefer Leah D’Emilio. Michelle Hummel would probably do fine without the teleprompter, so if you choose her, just don’t use the teleprompter.
Wm
P. S. Unlike those who can’t wait to see who wins, I’d love to give them all more of a chance. Something like 3 episodes each before a final judgement/vote. Cream rises to the surface when you churn it (yes, I’m saying you’ve milked it, and it’s so good you should churn it too).
May 14th, 2008 at 3:41 am
I thought this was a great entry… She’s bubbly and fun, her true personality really shines through. Clearly, she’s a guy’s kind of girl.
Speaking as someone who has never go-kart raced before (or really had any interest), I have to admit she made it look like a lot of fun, and I have to agree with a previous comment made by Goose, I smiled the whole way through.
I think no matter what the topic Michelle would hold my attention.
May 14th, 2008 at 5:16 am
Michelle is definitely not as polished as Leah, and way too over the top perky, plus that head twitch/hair flip she is constantly doing really gets on my nerves.
I think the topic was a blatant “get the guy vote” choice, and the race footage went on way too long. (the guy clearly let her win)
Despite the fact that I’m the type of person much more likely to try the indoor go-karts than the Brazilian dance fighting, I actually found Leah’s piece much more interesting and entertaining as well as better flowing. I’m not sure if the contestants are doing all of their own editing or not, but Michelle definitely needs to work on her pacing and stop leaving lulls in the middle if she wants to stay competitive.
May 14th, 2008 at 5:18 am
btw–the appeal that Michelle has with the judges is clear, but cup size should not be the sole deciding factor
May 14th, 2008 at 5:22 am
This girl is great.. how does anyone think that this wasn’t an entertaining subject. It brought the technology of the electrical go karts and the sport of racing together. Bravo Michelle for stepping outside Mahalo Daily’s usual tech boundaries. As A Fan of Mahalo Daily for some time now, I have grown bored with the content. This is the girl that displays all the skills to broaden Maholo daily into a household name.
May 14th, 2008 at 5:36 am
I thought Michelle H. did a wonderful job. Fun and informative episode she did. Made me want to go to K-1. She reminds me of Veronica.
May 14th, 2008 at 6:19 am
A very nice show, well presented and energetic. Not as professional as Leah’s but not far off! Personally I’d give it 7 out of 10!
I’d be happy to have Michelle as the regular host!
May 14th, 2008 at 6:35 am
Good show but I found the intro a bit long and stiff - either you’d know she was a finalist or it shouldn’t matter.
Otherwise, she asked great questions and did pretty well.
Still I put my money on Leah D’Emilo so far.
May 14th, 2008 at 7:59 am
Yawn.
Seemed stiff. I think she tries to be too energetic.
With two down, Leah is heads-above Michelle.
May 14th, 2008 at 8:11 am
I thought it was an interesting show from K1 Speed in Anaheim. Looks like an interesting and fun place.
I’ve never been to K1 Speed in Anaheim, but I would like to get to K1 Speed in Anaheim at some point to race go karts at K1 Speed in Anaheim. I particularly like that K1 Speed in Anaheim uses electric cars.
Okay. You probably get my point. To me, this seemed more like an infomercial than an episode of Mahalo Daily. I don’t blame Michelle for that, but it just felt kind of promotional, which is something you don’t usually get from MD.
May 14th, 2008 at 8:50 am
I think her attitude is very different from Veronica’s. She gives me the same feeling that Brooke Burke. She has such sexy eyes, good vibe, which are great but different from the MD i’m used to.
I don’t believe MD should be “techy” always, what really caught my attention in MD is the variety of topics specially those UNCOMMON ones (come on, i just loved the how to’s and the pepper one - gdc whas awesome !).
As i believe most of the MD fans are geeky guys like me (or tech lovers), although Michelle has experience and knows a lot about web, her style doesn’t really put that out to me.
Very nice piece of work, lighting could be better, but probably the location didn’t help much, Gokart was a good one to take on.
Cheers, good luck to you michelle !
May 14th, 2008 at 9:14 am
She was good and interesting but was missing a certain something. This show would get very boring after a month of wathcing her straight.
May 14th, 2008 at 10:06 am
It’s hard to judge who my fave is until I’ve seen all the finalists episodes, but you know, so far Michelle has my vote. Super engaging, super professional, confident. Even though some have complained about the non-geeky topic, that’s actually why I watch Mahalo Daily. There are tons of geek/tech shows out there, so having one that’s not (and is not ditzy like Amanda C or tired like Rocketboom) fills a real niche.
May 14th, 2008 at 10:32 am
True it wasn’t a very geeky topic but thats not so much the purpose of Mahalo Daily. The way I understand it Mahalo is supposed to show you different things every day things you don’t know about or would want to know more. So on that end this episode if perfectly fine, it’ll add content to the go karting page on Mahalo.
I thought showing the map at the beging was a really good idea often the places in mahalo Yeah they say the name but that really doesn’t give me a context of where that place is. For someone not on the west cost I would have no clue if Anaheim was in New Mexico or South Carolina. Good job not sure if it was better or worse then Leah’s they seemed pretty much even. Different Strengths different weaknesses
May 14th, 2008 at 10:47 am
Good mic skills and good energy. The visuals were great–fast paced and informative. I started to lose interest during the race itself–not much to learn during it.
Michelle was confident and energetic, but I thought she giggled too much. Also, by the end, it seemed like the episode was more about her than about the event. It even seemed like the K1 guy was interviewing her!
May 14th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Great episode. She was fun, entertaining, and engaging. As for the topic, I thought it was fine. I like how Mahalo Daily covers a WIDE range of topics, and I thought this was a great choice.
Go Michelle! =)
May 14th, 2008 at 11:44 am
wow. great presence on camera. i’ll even go so far as to say she might have even more appeal as far as interest level for viewers than belmont. all around the best performance of any contestants i’ve seen.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Michelle did a fantastic job. Great energy, great look, great mic work, great interview. She really fits the mold that Veronica got us hooked on at Mahalo Daily. I am excited to see what the other contestants bring to the table but we may have a winner here.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Good presentation, but I lean toward Leah. Small sample size, but Leah seems to have more of that something I would want.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:55 am
wow… another amazing episode. Michelle has amazing delivery and she just pulls you right into the camera.
I agree the topic was not amazing, but it was a fun episode and it moved quickly. Combined with her standup interview with Lon the manager of Pink Berry and her man on the street work, I think Michelle has done and excellent job.
This is going to be one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make. Leah and Michelle could both be hosts of the show starting tomorrow–as could any of the six finalists IMHO.
How are we going to get from six down to one is what I want to know.
That’s the big question: what do we do after the six shows air. There are three schools of thought:
* We pick a winner based on audience and internal feedback.
* We let go of one contestant and do another round of five shows. Over the next five weeks we drop one contestant until we have our host. This would be the most dramatic way to do it.
* Somewhere between number one and two (i.e. we go from six contestant to three, to two, and then to one).
What would you guys like to see?
all the best,
Jason

Just want to say in response to William Janoch’s comment, Michelle is a professional, and though it might seem like she is reading a teleprompter, I assure you the Mahalo crew did not bring one down to Anaheim with them. They aren’t exactly the easiest thing to move around. She has hosting experience, and thus is polished, don’t hold that against the girl! Great job on the episode Michelle!
May 14th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Not quite as polished and smooth as Leah was yesterday. The topic was interesting, but the race sequence went on too long. Beautiful girl, but just a bit rough on the interviewing skills. I also thought the outro was a bit awkward.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Excellent interview with a good balance of Q&A along with participation. She made me want to go try the go cats.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Jason:
Your search for the new host of Mahalo Daily has been great fun. Thanks so much for bringing your audience into the process. I would love to see you do another round of shows then begin dropping one contestant per week until you have the winner. I would hope you would take our comments into consideration when you make your final choice since we are your loyal audience. Thanks again for the fun you bring to my day!
May 14th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
love her! great personality, super likeable.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
I loved that hers was not so polished and that she wasn’t as afraid of looking like a fool, because you know these are gonna be the best topics. Not because you can laugh at her but actually you hope for her to do well. It got me far more involved than the one of Leah.
I have to agree on the editing though. The race was getting a bit boring and the guy could have at least not followed her all the time.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
THe topic was fun. I liked her look. Michelle seemed a little stiff, though.
May 14th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
A solid entry. If I were casting for the local NBC news affiliate in Boise, she might get my vote. But with Mahalo, I think you need a more compelling personality because the viewer is so ready to jump to something else. I found it difficult to watch the whole segment just because my interest factor was low and Michelle wasn’t making up the difference for me.
I couldn’t do half as well as Michelle in front of a camera. So I feel bad playing the role of a theater critic who can’t act. And if I hadn’t seen Leah’s performance yesterday, Michelle might be my favorite. Unfortunately for Michelle, Leah was better than very good. She was off the charts excellent.
Sorry Michelle…
May 14th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
After 2 down and 4 to go, my vote is still for Leah. This episode’s topic was not that interesting, and I did not think it was produced as well as Leah’s. Leah had a lot of head-bobbing, but Michelle seemed to have statue-itis, which I like even less. A lot of comments above seemed to say that she would really hold their attention, but I feel the opposite. I don’t think I would continue watching Mahalo Daily with Michelle as the host.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Jason,
My vote would be for your third option. One at a time for five weeks stretches it out a bit too much, but the general idea is really good. As sad as I was to see Veronica go, I have enjoyed this process a lot! Also, kudos to Lon, the judges, and everyone else behind the scenes at Mahalo!
May 14th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
I’m not sure what to say about this episode. In Leah’s episode the topic was just OK but I watched the entire episode because she was very engaging. This episode was very average. It was a bland topic, not very much to keep me interested. I would have liked you to show more of the online leader boards and maybe the tech behind the operation more than watching you race around the track.
Just my opinion but not as good as Leah’s episode.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
I love Michelle’s tech background and with this piece she really showed that she has the whole package. She was loose, fun, effortless, and professional. She’ll only get better.
Bravo!
May 14th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
I agree with W. Janoch. I like MIchelle and I’d be happy with her as the host. I think Leah did a little better job, but it may also have been the subject matter showed off the interviewing a bit more. I like to see more of Michelle, but at this point she’d not my number one. I do also like the idea of both Michelle and Leah as hosts or a championship round to compare them again. I like Michelle’s look, but prefer Leah a little there as well. Tough competition, but I think Michelle and Leah are likely the two to chose from.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
@Jason,
While I think cutting one person each round could result in some fresh and diverse content I do not think it is fair to the contestants. Those not picked need to get back to their lives at some point. The Mahalo Daily branding will benefit by having a steady lead personality again. I would next go to another round of three and pick the winner from there. Good luck and I know viewers will enjoy watching whatever method of selection is picked.
May 14th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
her intro was good, ruff on the interviewing skills. she pauses or say’s the wrong thing and I alway feel she is having to think of the question just before she ask it instead of knowing what she is going to say next. she needs more polish
May 14th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Fun episode… not the best but good times… make sure you vote at my unofficial mahalo mashup site: http://mahalo.connectedgeek.net/2008/05/12/mahalo-vlogidol-finalists-were-almost-done-but-are-we/
May 14th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Michelle comes across as though she is “Acting” like how she believes the next Mahalo Daily host should behave, and thus is stilted, forced and stiff. Leah seemed more like she was having fun with the whole Capoeira shoot and has much more “girl-next-door” appeal than Michelle.
Michelle’s intro was unabashed plugging for votes: “hey guys, vote for me!”, which I found annoying. That, and her smile seems kind of plastic, or not quite genuine, whereas Leah seemed like she was enjoying herself, which showed in her smile.
When I found the Mahalo Daily vidcast, I looked forward to seeing Veronica each morning as her perkiness and likability helped to kick-start my day. Leah has some of that appeal too, but if Michelle is picked, I will cancel my subscription in a heartbeat.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!!
great interview very professional
good luck
May 14th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
I don’t envy the decision that Jason has to make trying to pick just one host for Mahalo Daily.
Michelle did a great job. Good questions on camera. Good mic work. Very entertaining.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Michelle was wonderful. I loved her enthusiasm and definitely a promising fit for Mahalo Daily. She impressed me slightly more than Yesterday’s contestant.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
I’d never heard of Mahalo Daily, but a friend told me to check it out. Wow — love Michelle! If she does more interview segments, I’m definitely coming back to watch!
May 14th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Leah is a much stronger candidate. Michelle seemed less professional and lacks that sparkle. Also needs to keep her hair out of her face during interviews. Looking forward to more shows, sadly Michelle is bottom of the two so far.
May 14th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
I’m really like it. Interesting topic, a little bit concentrated on a Michelle, but fun. And I think she was nerves very much and it was visible.
May 14th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
I thought she was a little blah, and definitely not as good as Leah was yesterday.
As for the way things should be run, I think either option 1 or 3 is best. If you can pick someone after just one show, go for it. If not, drop half of them and do one more round of shows.
May 14th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Bugger, another good episode. I sure hope a few of these girls start dropping the ball soon, or else it is going to be torture to choose one, over the other.
I thought Michelle did a pretty bang up job. There was no extensive narration this time, which made things feel more like a classic MD episode. The intro and the interview were fine. I agree the race was a bit long, and even though the competition was (probably) contrived, it was still fun to watch. I did feel that the outro stumbled a bit though.
Overall, it was a good episode, and made for some worthy competition.
May 14th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
She destroyed the other girl. As far as not being “techy”. Mahalo Daily has never been techy. Anyone remember indoor skydiving, flying lessons, and Coffee.
At first I thought she was smiling too much but she became endearing. Her questions were well thought out. In the final interview sequence she even mentions the tracking of scores which would be a key draw for the business. The manager didn’t mention it and she brought it into the conversation.
I didn’t like her before this, but she’s the best of the two so far.
May 14th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Jason –
My vote is for the first selection method: Pull the bandaid off quickly and get busy (re)establishing the brand and (re)building a loyal following. I, for one, am eager to get back into a rhythm with the show (and Lon — love Lon, but hope we’re through with the tiresome Bachelon).
As for audience input, I would appreciate the chance to select a winner and possibly a runner-up after seeing all six. Thanks.
JK
May 14th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Great episode! I felt you knew how to use your mic, but best of all, you really managed to engage your interview subject!
May 14th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
She was ok. I believe she could have done better though, but still fun to watch.
May 14th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
So far My vote is for Michelle., Being the second episode out is tough, sounds like she is getting more negative criticism because everyone has something to compare it to. Unlike the first episode which was fine until you can compare it to the second . I like her down to earth approachability. The best part is when they had her put on the racing sock over her face and the helmet and she didn’t even hesitate. All in all I didn’t enjoy the dance fighting as much as the Go Karts which seemed fun and less like a Documentary. I haven’t made my decision as I haven’t seen the rest of the competition. But obviously anyone with they’re mind made up has vested interest at this point.
May 14th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
I feel Michelle Was Professional and fun in her episode.. She combines Beauty and intelligence perfectly. I would love to see her bring her fearless attitude to Mahalo Daily. Like one of the posts said before, Grab her before she lands another gig.
May 14th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Sorry guys. Snooze. I thought this lack energy. Thank goodness for the speedy cars. Despite her radiant smile, I thought Michelle was a bit lackluster.
May 14th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Good race, Michelle!
May 14th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
@Jason - I think your third option or something similar (ie. more than one round) sounds great.
The trick is - it’s makes for a damn long interview process…
Maybe cut from 6 to 3 and then 3 to 1. What do the “contestants” think?
May 14th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Good episode, but not great. If the competiton is between Leah and Michelle, then Leah wins hands down. Michelle is cute and perky, but she just does not look very confident on screen. Mahalo Daily needs a confident, spunky host and Michelle just isn’t it. Sorry, Michelle!
May 14th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
This is going to be hard I loved Michelle’s episode too! I don’t know who I liked best. I think both are great! I would give a slight edge to Michelle I think.
May 14th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
@Jason
Speaking selfishly as a viewer, I’d prefer option 2 - i.e. cutting the contestants down one by one. The VLOG idol competition has been compulsive viewing so far. I suspect I might not be the only one getting hooked on the MD podcast as a result of the competition.
Whilst I agree that this does keep the contestants away from ‘real life’, it does also provide them with the valuable experience (and exposure) of presenting a podcast. i.e. it’s not purely an interview process.
However, if option 2 is not possible, I’d also be content with option 3. As mentioned above, see what the contestants prefer too.
Lastly, teaser 5 was a work of genius - keep the teasers coming too, please!
May 14th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
I loved subject so much It makes me actually want to go try go karting myself. energy is infectious throughout the entire project. In my opinion it’s gonna be hard to top the combo of exciting world of racing go karts and the natural hosting aura that Michelle brought out. Not to mention she’s pretty cute.
May 14th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
Was well done - but what do you expect from one of the 6 finalists? I have to say though that I think Leah’s was better. Michelle turned it too much into a commercial and didn’t really dig into ‘what’s to know about’ the topic. Entertaining, but a bit too superficial.
May 14th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
The bar was set high by Leah, but I have to say that I really loved Michelle in this episode. I thought there was a very fun and upbeat tone throughout and I liked the flow. At this point in time I would have to say Leah and Michelle are neck and neck and I would have to flip a coin to declare one of them the winner. Can’t wait to see the remaining four shows…
May 14th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Loved it! I was smiling the whole time, there was something about her i really liked. Gets my vote
May 14th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Great episode and a really fun host. She’d be a great fit for the show!
May 14th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
She forgot to introduce the person she was interviewing. Rookie mistake.
May 14th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
Good episode. I liked the pacing. Better interaction with the person being interviewed than in the first video. The fun of go-cart racing really came across.
May 14th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
I think Michelle did a great job. She has a natural warmth and charisma.
May 14th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
I wish she had more pizzaz, Michelle’s got the look no doubt, and perhaps the background but I’m not feelin’ the love or the [faux] enthusiasm. ANDREA FOR THE WIN!
May 14th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Jason
I like option 3. as for Michelle’s episode i liked it. It will be tough to choose. I do give a slight edge to Leah. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest.
May 14th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
I must say I was completely turned off by this episode. I think in fact I would rather go back to watching TV than watch another episode of Michelle. It starts out boring and ends the same way. The interview skills were flat and not interesting to watch at all. It’s like listening to a Brian Tracey audio book or Video, as dry and boring as watching paint dry. Maybe if she picked a topic where we could see her actually doing something or having to interact more with those around her. Honestly if she makes it to the next round then Mahalo Daily is off my podcast list.
May 14th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Great Job, Michelle!!! Go-karting is now on my to-do list. I felt informed and entertained…I smiled all the way through. Its evident you brought positive energy to your episode and those around you. Your ability to speak on camera, without reading props, is a rare talent. I want to see that, rather then narrating in the background…as anyone can do that. You were confident and very organized… keeping the show moving. I hope Mahalo Daily sees the value you have to offer.
May 14th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
I like Michelle better than the first contestant. Although I’m hoping someone will do even better!
May 14th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Ahhh, Michelle, I think I’m in love.
What a pro. She rocks!!!!
Fearless and smiling all the way.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
I did not like her as much as Leah! Leah was a natural.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Not as good as Leah’s, period. The topic was failry interesting one but the whole flow of the show wasn’t so good. I felt Michelle lacks a fluency in this kind of thing.
May 15th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Really fun episode, but I still think Leah has a slight edge when it comes to the interviewing skills. I think she will shine no matter what she does in the future. I still thinking your gonna have to hire 2 host.
May 15th, 2008 at 3:50 am
Not too bad, but still Leah did a much better one.
I don’t feel Michelle really being professional enough.
Of course Mahalo daily is not all about being professional, but trying to be fun just isn’t enough to my eyes.
I would probably not be watching the episodes to often if Michelle is the next host, sorry…

Michelle’s topic was great - just as Mahalo Daily covered extreme yo-yo and Knott’s Berry Farm in the past, Go Kart racing was a good topic, though I always appreciate a bit more of a behind the scenes look than we got here. I have to admit, being in SoCal and watching this, it did make me want to drop $20 and go experience K1 Speed for myself, so that has to count for something. Not my favorite, but still a good episode.

That was fun. The guy she talked to was interesting and informative and they had good chemistry together. She seemed a little stiff at the start and not quite as good improv abilities as Lon but she’s my fave out of the three so far.
May 15th, 2008 at 7:58 am
Did not care for the topic. Michelle got the job done, but you need more than that. Out of the 2, Leah is the one.
May 15th, 2008 at 8:56 am
Excellent Job! She is full of energy, and looks like she wants to be there.
May 15th, 2008 at 9:02 am
These first three episodes were great. I observed no glaring errors. You can’t go wrong with any of these gals. My preference: hire them all!
However, Michelle was clearly the best. She has a great gift of putting the role of interviewer aside and getting into the event as a participant. You could tell she really liked what she was doing and gave genuine feedback about the experience.
Her choice of topics was also good and fits well with the Mahalo Daily venue. It is something a geek (like myself) might do and would certainly enjoy learning about.

looooong intro, she is too stiff, I can sense that the smile is fake, she is working, not enjoying herself.
It felt like a long vlogcommercial about K1, not like a Mahalo daily episode. Sorry Michelle.
Thank you Jason

She did well but so far #2.
Pretty Girl but forced smile and to much “I am on camera” instead of a more natural talk/chat interaction
May 15th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Loved her episode, she is alot of fun! I hope that she wins. What a great topic, Go carting! Way to go, I vote for her definitely. I hope that she is the next host for Mahalo Daily she would be amazing!!!
May 15th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Some questions were weak - for example - how are these carts different than gas powered - do they have the same performance?
Why do some race car drivers start in carts - e.g., Jeff Gordin and a host of formula 1 drivers.
Race sequence too long
Her outro was a little stiff
She’s beautiful, but I don’t think she is the one
May 15th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Amazing - Michelle is Smart, Funny, and she can hold your attention.
She should be the host!
May 15th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
She was freking wonderful! I can’t take my eyes off her, cause she just got THAT atmosphere and cause she’s very sexy!
May 15th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
This was the best of the first 3. The presentation was done well, and she worked well with who she was interviewing.
May 15th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Michelle did a great job. Great interviewer, kept it very upbeat, but there’s just something about her voice… it seems kind of awkward to me. My vote is leaning towards Leah so far.
May 15th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
I like Michelle but so far she is the weakest of the 3. She looks a bit uncomfortable doing what she is doing.
May 15th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Three videos in, and Michelle is still my favorite. I liked her energy and I think she handled the interview well. She has a great look. A little rough in places, but I think that’s just experience. And she is a bona fide geek, having done web design. I think she’s the strongest candidate of the lot.
May 15th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
I got the sense that Michelle wasn’t really all that into the go-kart racing. She seemed to be acting the part of an interested person. Nonetheless, I give her big points for jumping into the car and driving around… a lot. She’s not perfect, but shows potential. I’d like to see her again.

I thought Michelle did a great job, personally I thought it was a great topic, I found it informative. I personally didn’t realize that electric karts were the new thing, I can remember stinking like exhaust for hours after an indoor kart race. One major thing that everyone seems to be overlooking, is the overall production. The girls are not just hosting, but also producing each of their episodes. I would like to know how much of the production and post production (camera edits, music, etc ) they are actually responsible for. But I think this was by far the best produced episode so far. Great job Michelle!
May 16th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Of the three so far, I liked Michelle’s the most.
May 16th, 2008 at 10:10 am
I’ll have to say, despite the fact that I kind of expected the whole go-karting thing not to go over very well, it actually really did. Michelle has great presence, energy and it really showed that she knew exactly what she was going to say. I’d like to see her do something with tech or tech related in order to show her knowledge.
May 16th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
I’ve got to admit, out of the first three, this one seemed the weakest. Being stiff on camera (the intro in particular!) was an issue, but that would go away with getting more used to doing the show. However, as @Lionel Marye pointed out, this felt more like a K1Speed infomercial than a MD episode.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:58 am
she is ok, but i’d vote for leah
May 17th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
She made watching go-kart racing exciting! Liked the “green” incorporation. She gives me that “girl next door” vibe
May 17th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
It’s Funny what some people are posting on the boards describing Michelle as stiff and her interviewing skills are lacking. I happen to have seen Michelle’s work and she already has a web show called cities by foot. Where she travels around as the host previewing little known secrets in big vacation spots. She is actually one of the two only professionals that are left in the top 6. Each intro is the same with every girl as they were told to say vote for me etc, etc. So criticizing the beginning is pointless. Meanwhile Michelle actually demonstrated as well as interviewed the subject she chose.. She undoubtedly has the charisma, charm and the smarts to pull anything off. check out the website http://www.citiesbyfoot.com and then post how unprofessional and fake you feel she is then. So instead of casting votes for your friends and then bashing the other contestant and pretending you don’t know anyone, lets be real about it. There is nothing wrong about the other girls episodes, that we can see in front of the lens, But coming from the business it comes down to time. And if you actually get a true professional in front of the camera, It saves you time and money in the long run. I’ve watched all three videos and enjoy Michelle’s the most. In my opinion, it seems like she is actually having fun doing what she is covering. I believe that is what Mahalo should be all about. Don’t you?
May 18th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
I like Michelle Hummel’s Mahalo Daily the most. She is beautiful and fun, I enjoyed it all the way!
May 18th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
In the business, what may be considered “professional” can become too narrowly defined. How often have we seen “the host clone” interchangeable without notice, without interruption?
Michelle offered a fresh face that dared to be herself…beautiful, spirited and intelligent. Despite her experience and success in hosting, acting and website design, she avoided the ‘Hollywood clone gloss” that so often is imposed by the industry and which puts me to sleep! I say “Yes to Michelle!” and believe that if given the opportunity her “professional genuineness” will surprise and entertain us broadly in the days to come. Good work MahaloDaily for being so thorough and thoughtful in filling this position. Several candidates have certainly stepped up to the challenge.

Yes
May 19th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Not that good.. Was a little boring, seemed to go on forever even when it was sped up could have been cut better. Was not as good as leah
May 19th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Michelle is the one,!!! you need to have her as your next host, don’t let her go.!!
trust me i know , i’m a New Yorker…
May 19th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
best so far.
May 19th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
She is definitely your next host..
May 19th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Excellent! You had a lot of energy, and interviewed very well. You definitely have a presence, and your wonderful personality shows through.
If those guys don’t chose you, they are idiots!
May 20th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Michelle and Leah are my favorites, and I’d be happy with either of them winning. They’re both professional enough without being too cable news anchor-y, if that makes sense. I’d love to see Michelle or Leah (or both) win! Adorable, spunky, and great voices/speaking skills too. Go Michelle! I agree with the Dave Attell-looking guy that commented on her Xena/Lucy Lawless look, but she’s cuter IMO.
May 20th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Very well done, high energy, excellent coverage of the topic. Drew the audience in to the subject. Good interviewing skills and winning personality. A definate contender!
May 21st, 2008 at 6:09 am
Michelle for Host!
May 22nd, 2008 at 2:36 pm
All the episode were great (well done ladies), but I’m gonna have to go with pretty girl in the go-kart.
In the most respectful manner possible, I’d like to go on record and say that between her personality and looks, Michelle is very nice to look at — I could watch her bush her teeth and be happy. PLUS… Kart Racing… are you kidding me? I love it!!!! And to all those narrow minded people who made comments that this episode wasn’t ‘techy enough’, you shouldn’t just assume that all viewers in the world are ‘techy.’
May 29th, 2008 at 6:00 am
This was great! K1 Speed is a class facility and you did it justice.
May 30th, 2008 at 11:11 am
If this is what I can expect from Michelle Hummel as a host then sign me up. The completely and totally nailed the episode. GREAT WORK!
