I wouldn’t mind being wrapped lovingly in a towel and getting snuggled by Ms. Belmont.

I’m a big fan of M daily but this is just not a good video all around. Microsoft extended the warranty of 360’s to fix the issue which should be your first move. Trying to do the towel technique may just make things worse and if MS finds evidence of that they will void the warranty. Why try to hack it up and fix it yourself thereby voiding the warranty?
There was a good article recently about the quality issues of the 360:
http://www.8bitjoystick.com/archives/jake_inside_source_reveal_the_truth_about_xbox_360_red_ring_of_death_failures.php
This sheds some good light on many of the issues and available fixes for them. However, sending to Microsoft should definitely be the move you make. Hands down.
Encouraging people to do otherwise is just irresponsible and this video may do more harm than good. The warranty was extended for a reason, people. Use it.
PS: I’m not affiliated with Microsoft in any way but I AM a 360 owner and if mine broke Microsoft is my first call.
Cheers.

@JP – I’m sorry you feel that way, but we clearly give the correct information here. Not only did I give a warning about the towel technique, but I also said to get the extended warranty, send it to MS, and also gave all the correct MS information. I even warned that some of the actions will void your warranty.
I hardly think we’ve lead anyone astray here!

Agreed, my friend sent his of to Microsoft and it took them 2 weeks to send it back. And he claims that its noisier now (??).
If another friend has the same problem (I actually don’t own one. Wii FTW) then I’d definitely show him this. What’s the worst that could happen? It could break more?
And meh Veronica pretty much said that its at your own risk. If it was mine I would probably break it open anyway.
Great Daily, as always. :)

I agree with JP. . .but for completely different reasons.
The towel trick DOES work. . .yes I have no idea how or why. . but it just does.
However the ‘dream sequence’ was just sad. Remember your core audience is geeks 18-35. . .not kids 10-16.

Hi Veronica.
I loved that video, really well made and gave me a chuckle too :-)
I definately would not recommend the towel method however because as you quite rightly say it could make your console worse.
The towel method is supposed to combat the problem of poor joint soldering inside the machine. Many componants become disconnected due to overheating issues thus causing the solder joints to crack and disconnect which in turn breaks circuits.
The towel method blocks the air vents so that the machine heats up internally and re-melts the solder thus reconnecting the circuit – or so the theory goes.
I go into why you shouldn’t do this on my blog and also an alternative solution tha may work for some people.
All the best.
Simon.

Nice website, I was doing some net browsing and happened onto your website, I used to be pondering if you knew your blog is rendering unusually in the K-mellon browser. I will see everything however the pictures are one way or another out of whack. Probably not a massive issue since basically no one utilizes it anymore however I am old school and still use it.

Hey there guys, I just wanted to holla and tell you that I found a great site. For those of you who don’t want to spend ridiculous amounts of money on pay-per-view fees to watch UFC 108 online FREE in full high definition. Better then spending $55.95 on it eh?
